Andrew “Andy” Davis Aylor, Sr. (1933-2025)

Andrew “Andy” Davis Aylor, 92 of Etlan, Va., passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at UVA Culpeper Hospital. He was born on April 6, 1933, to the late Emmet Comer Aylor and Golda Mae Myers Aylor. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Emmett Junior Aylor and Thomas Nelson Aylor; sister, Ula Jean Beach; and granddaughter, Kaitlin Aylor.

Andy served in the Korean War in Germany. He was a veteran of the VFW and American Legion. Andy was the last surviving member of the original Madison Young Farmers. He was also a member of the Etlan United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughters, Wanda Aylor Harris and husband Alan, Donna Aylor Freeman and husband Chip, adopted daughter, Betty Weaver Leonard; sons, Andrew Davis Aylor, Jr. and wife Debbie, Robert Kent Aylor and wife, Sue, James Allen Aylor and wife Beth; brothers, Wilmer Leon Aylor and wife Arlene, James Lacy Aylor and wife Ethel; sister, Elizabeth Aylor Smith and husband Kenneth; grandchildren, Sarah Durham and husband Mike, Nathan Harris and wife Brittany, Brandon Harris, Hannah Freeman, Kristi Aylor, Emmet Aylor, Sid Aylor; great-grandchildren, Drew Durham and wife Lexy, Emily Durham, Lucas Durham, Jackson Durham, and Natalie Harris.

Dorris Coppage Wenzel (1937-2025)

Dorris Coppage Wenzel, 87 of Ashburn, Virginia, died on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Morningside House in Leesburg, Virginia.

Born Sunday, April 18, 1937, in Madison, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Coppage and the late Eva Lohr Coppage.

Dorris was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Jack Wenzel.

She leaves many to cherish her memory including her sons and their families, Jeffery and Sharon Wenzel and their two children, Jake and Kristin, Michael and Ruth Wenzel and their two children, Emily and Sara, and Kevin and Zaria and their three children, Christopher, Justin and Talia.

Charles Milton Callaway (1938-2024)

Chuck, a longtime member of the CCFA, passed away on 18 March 2024. He was born on 1 April 1938 in West Virginia to Elbert Amayo and Hilda Elizabeth (Willis) Callaway. Chuck was one of six children born to that marriage.

He was a dedicated public servant, serving as a firefighter with the Washington, D.C., Fire Department for 30 years, and with the Coast Guard Reserve for 35 years. He also worked for Waste Management for 24 years.

Chuck is survived by his loving and devoted wife Vivian Callaway; his sons David Callaway of Sykesville, MD, and Charles Callaway (Janelle) of Roanoke, VA; stepson Jim Brown (Michael) of Roanoke, VA and stepdaughter Denise Brown of Middlesex; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lucy Davis Yowell Coppedge (1931-2020)

Lucy Yowell Coppedge, 88, of Etlan, died Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at her home. Born August 20, 1931, Lucy was the daughter of Gilbert and Mary Yowell and sister to half-siblings Hugh and Lester Yowell, Lillian Brown, Lucille Douglas, Florine Aylor, and Virginia Fincham. She married Fred Lee Coppedge of Etlan on January 14, 1950, and they were married for 51 years until he died in 2001.

Lucy was a homemaker happiest when mowing, weed eating, and working in her flowers and garden. At age 85, she was still mowing part of her yard with a self-propelled mower. She once remarked that she wanted to “go quick and with my yard looking good.” She was well-known for her butterscotch pies, sweet tea, and corn pudding made with “right smart sugar.” She took pride in preparing Sunday dinners for her entire family for over thirty years.

She was an Etlan United Methodist Church member and, for many years, created altar flower arrangements for Sunday services.

Her children survive her: Dennis Coppedge and wife Nan, Douglas Coppedge, and wife Darlene, all of Etlan, Mary Leah Bennett, and husband Ricky of Culpeper. Grandchildren include Kaci Daniel and husband Scott, Laura DeBoer and husband Chris, Wesley Coppedge, Jeffrey Shifflett and wife Brittany, and Daniel Shifflett, and four great-grandchildren, Sam and Hannah DeBoer, Emma Grace, and Shelby Shifflett. She will be dearly missed by special friends Shelby Jean Hull and Eilene Smith.

Thelma Yowell Coppedge (1930-2019)

Thelma Yowell Coppedge, 89, of Etlan, VA, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019, at Autumn Care of Madison. She was born on July 6, 1930, in Nethers, Madison County, the daughter of the late Dutton Ernest Yowell and Ethel Nethers Yowell, and wife of the late William Wesley Coppedge.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Yowell Jenkins; great-niece, Angie Stanley; and a great nephew, Jeremy Stanley. She is survived by a nephew, Warren Randolph Jenkins and wife, Patty, of Madison; niece, Shelia Stanley and wife of the late James Stanley; great nieces, Katy J. Woodward and husband, Dale and their daughter, Riley, of Ruckersville, and Ryann Jenkins and fiancé Cory, of Madison; great-great-niece Shyanne Corbin and daughter, Octavia of Madison; great-great nephew, Rory and his mother, Allyson Bowers, of Culpeper.
